Rockingham Area

Spent the last 2 days beach fishing, yesterday at Shoalwater and then today at the Long Point boat ramp.

Started out yesterday fishing the Penguin Island sand bar, lots of little pickers first hook up was a blowie so that was it with that spot. Packed up and went north up around the bay a couple of k's spent the next 4 hours fishing in what seems to be a nursery ended up landing around 15 to 20 sand whiting smallest about 80mm largest 150mm, 2 tarwine about 120mm and 1 flathead of around 120mm. Not a bad session really, sure beats catching shyte fish. All fish were released apart from one misfortunate sandy which took the hook alittle to deep but as it turns out tarwine really like whiting.

So with yesterdays session kind of successful with regards to species caught I ventured out in search of the larger specimens. I made the decision last night after looking at google maps to fish Long Point, I couldn't find vehicle access to the beach so ended up fishing at the boat ramp.

Today I came prepared with my Tld 25 trolling outfit setup for ballooning so first up out went a skippy skeleton, followed by the light gear and bang I was straight on to my first fish little sand whiting. Woo hoo I thought could be on to a good thing here, wow was I mistaken by about the twentieth trumpeter I was thinking what am I doing here and then my little pflueger asario screamed into life and a short while later I landed this monster

Long Tom? Correct me if im wrong. This capture instilled a fair amount of hope but it was short lived about another 20 trumpeter later I was pretty much over it, but what was I to do still had about another hour and a half til I had to go pick up my daughter so kept fishing. I decided I would walk out on the finger jetty and flick some lures around for a while then next thing I know zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!! off goes the TLD and here we go Usain Bolt eat your heart out, didn't know I could run that fast I was off the jetty and 100m meters down the beach in way less than the WR but was all to no avail what ever it was had drop the bait. That was about it for today another 10 or so trumpeter, looking forward to sunday hopfully get out in the boat metro spanyard here we come!!!

I've eaten them. Theyre alright, pretty boney though. I probably wouldn't bother again on account of the bones.

Longtoms have teeth like a crocodile. Did this bloke have fangs ?

They can be very nasty if they get a hold of you.

It had some serious teeth, should have taken a pic with it's mouth open. You can see a bit better if you open the head shot picture and zooming in
