rod and reel help.

hello all.

ok i know its the demersal ban but i thought that i would save while the ban is on and get my self a good out fit for demersals.

the question is, can you guys recomend a rod and reel that will be good for bottom bashing and also jigging for demersals??? budget around 500. is that to little?

cheers

how heavy you want to go?

if you want a nice rod, go for the heart rise jigforce, rated p.e 1.5-3, there usually around $350, but huggyb has one in the classiefields for $200, absolute bargain for a great rod that can take a lot of abuse.

as for reel, i reckon a saragosa 5000 would be ideal, the good thing with the gosa is that it is low speed so much easier to jig with, the 5000 size should be perfect, decent line capacity and you will be able to use it for beach fishing aswell

any of the small overhead

any of the small overhead reels like Daiwa Saltist series or Shimano Toriums are pretty cheap, which will leave you enough for a decent rod and maybe spool it up.
Pop into your tackle store and they will be able to put together a decent combo for under $500.

If you are mainly using it

If you are mainly using it for bottom bashing I wouldn't go for the Hearty Rise JF 1.5-3. These rods are only rated to 120g which means you shouldn't really use sinkers heavier than 5oz. Great jigging rod but way too light for bottom bashing. Don't know of any rods that are light enough to demersal jig and could also handle a 16oz sinker.

yeah. thats true

one way or another your going to be over or under gunned.

you need two outfits or better still , give up bait fishing and get the jigging combo
