The 'jobfish' can be very difficult to tell apart, just based on photos. However, I am pretty sure that this is a Sharptooth Snapper (Jobfish) Pristipomoides typus. I can just count scales (plus or minus)from your photo and that narrows it down quickly for me. Very interesting catch - thanks for sharing.
Yes Adam, they are very similar. I have to admit to spending a bit of time on this one - there were a few things that swung me to Sharptooth, but the main one is that Sharptooth Snapper has around 50 scales along the lateral line, whereas the Rosy Snapper has smaller scales (60 or more along lateral line). Yes, I zoomed in on the photo and counted - sad life, I know! My guess is that they both get called 'Rosy Jobfish' most of the time. Also, sorry about the use of the 'standard' name 'Snapper' rather than jobfish, but that's what I have to do.
