Rotto Boat Parking for Dummies

We usually go to Herring Bay or Carnac but I've been watching the weather and am considering taking the family to Rotto for our first day trip Sunday from Hillarys. I've scoped out the beach parking area but am still not entirely sure how it all works. It looks like there's attachment points on the beach to tie to the stern to stop the boat swinging around but is it BYO rope and if so how much will I need or can I drop the family off? ... or do I just drop the family off at the jetty and head out fishing all day?

Cheers JF

Sometimes the area just north

Sometimes the area just north of the beach pens (beach anchorage) is roped off...but you can still reverse hard up to them floats. Should be all clear this time of year though event wise.

Yeah you need a second anchor for stern 20m approx...set ya front anchor first, reverse in and turn it off...just walk the second anchor and rope up, dig a hole or sink it hard in sand just prior. Given the easterly most of the day you should be fine.

Depending if area is roped off it could be waist deep just outside it, so you can drop wife and kids and main jetty opposite ferry side if they dont want to walk through the weed..Theres a small landing jetty on north side just of tip.

 Sounds like you're referring

Sounds like you're referring to the beach pens in Bathurst/Thomson bay. You need to book these and need to take own ropes. I think there are also other beach anchoring points in Bathurst/Thomson that are on a first come first served basis that don't need to be booked - bring you own stern ropes and use your anchor out front

As said before, best bet is to bring a second stern anchor, then you can pull up to any beach on the island. Personally, I prefer escaping the crowds and prefer to find some clear water in another bay.

Don't forget that you need to pay landing fees or buy an annual boat pass, else you risk being fined by the ranger.

 Unless it has recently

Unless it has recently changed, there are 37 free beach anchoring points on the island. 27 in Thompson Bay www.rottnestisland.com/boating/boating-on-rottnest-island/Facilities. They are on a first come first serve basis.

I've only used them a couple of times, so no expert however... drop anchor and slowly reverse in, trimming up motor. I used a single 10m rope with 1 end connected to a tie down point on the stern, when close, turn off motor and jump in with rope in hand. Loop through the 2 tie down points on the beach and tie back onto boat. Pull boat in so family can get off without getting too wet. Jump back on boat and use your new anchor winch to move the boat back off the beach a little.

Must have been something in

Must have been something in the way you formatted? It just needs to be typed as plain text and not using the link button in the toolbar. Pays to resize it though so it doesnt fill the entire screen
