Rotto Crays

I actually managed to join the cray hunt in Rotto in a little style this time round. A timely invite on a friends 57ft Riv saw us cruising over Sat morning and just rolled the dice looking for some good ground on the North side. Between two of us and 12m of water, we pulled in a dozen crays in the first 40 min. Only 10 were size but we were obviously stoked with the result. It was almost like shopping at the super market down there!

With a boat load of people, they didn't last long after being grilled  on board in a tasty garlic butter!

Sunday was a different story though. We headed to an old trusted spot on the South side and found nothing right up until we had just 100 bar left in the tank.

After a little peak into a narrow but deep cave, It was on again!

A long frantic struggle deep in the cave landed us a ripper. A ripper full of eggs unfortunately...

We moved around the corner and there was another ledge full of big lazy crays. One by one we got them in only to find they all bearing the future of our cray seasons. Out of 8 monsters, only one without eggs!

Never mind though, it's nice to know they are actually breeding, and it does feel good to do the right thing.

After a dozen for the boat last Sunday and another dozen this weekend, it's been a healthy start to the season!

nothing wrong with it, as long as you eat it straight away.
