Sad to see Campbells Close

BCF finally shutting their doors on them, employees didnt look too happy. Not much left on the shelves.
Long way to go north or south for a decent tackle store.... hope someone fills the void in the city.

Yep agree. Was in there
Yep agree. Was in there last week and nathan the manager wasnt that happy. Its a bummer for me because it was close enough to get to during my lunch break. Good luck to the boys working there. All very knowledgeable and i am sure they will find something.

no surprise
No surprise when a big fish comes in and doesnt see the value in a small local, very unfortunate. Was a great store when i was in perth.

100% agree on compleat + they picked up Kim from Bias in Claremont when it closed - you will go a long way to find a more knowledgeable and top bloke - shame about campbells - bought my first penn reel there- 12months of pushing trolleys at coles to pay for it...

Bad day for fishos
When any of the small (and not so small) tackle shops close I think it is a sad day for the fishing fraternity.
Each one had something special about them, be it their staff or some of the out of the square products they would hold.

Unfortunately it was only a matter of time
I wouldn't think the lease cost of a building that size in the middle of cafe strip haven would be cheap. Unfortunately I reckon super retail group would be renting land for those big super stores as a rate cheaper than what Leederville was.
Sad to see it close as independent stores certainly offer better service.
I shop at Bluewater Morley for most of my gear and all of the guys there know their stuff and are very helpful.

Picked up 5 squid jigs this morning. Weights between 4.5 and 2.5. Yo-zuri and that other well known brand. Got the five for $48. Saved $72.

It was a very good store,
It was a very good store, full of wonderous stuff. It was common to go in to get a couple of snapper leads and come out $200 poorer with a bag of goodies that caught your eye.
Then Super cheap bought it......... and it died a slow death.

Sadder day when bcf bought it out
Still sad to see the doors close but I think it lost a lot of its touch when bcf bought it out though.
I still remember gazing around in awe when I was about 5 years old when I bought my first ever rod from there. Used to ride my bike from subi nearly every weekend during school holidays to get lures and bait for the river. Saved many pennies back then for my first penn spinfisher - $219 for the 8500ss haha. One of the last things to happen there is Jarrad building me a rod for my 21st birthday - bloody fantastic rod too!
I've since made the transition to compleat in neddies and I'm happy I did.

Kudos to Bob and Greg Campbell
Bob and Greg Campbell gave me my first job when I came to Perth on the bones of my backside back in 1998. A lot of kudos goes to them and their late father who opened the store. Bob and Greg if this thread gets to you, it'd be great to see the 1st generation black and whites you have of the store. The Campbell brothers were extremely tight knit, great business men who insisted (and were) on being market leaders without recklessly discounting. I only worked there for 1 year but they taught me a lot about business and most importantly how to manage a look after staff. Life skills I use in my business today of 20 plus folk. I'll never forget the tradition they had of giving each of us $50 for beer money every time a long weekend came around. I'll never forget the weekly ritual of fetching their carton of emu draft each week as so they could have a couple of jovial tins together every afternoon. I'll never forget meeting my 2 work colleagues that had both been there since they left school. Fifteen years plus service, Shane may have done 20 or so in the end, unheard of these days. I'll never forget hearing for months on end about Shane Youngers "9 for" he got in his 5th grade cricket match:)
in the early days of the aquisitiin the store appeared to hold its ground, but you could eventually see it lose traction as the stocks dwindled (you used to be able to go there and bank on the fact that they'd have what you want). You could also see how the product lines retained were simply key sellers and less boutique gear. Good in principal as they would have had all the data to demonstrate why but what the data doesn't demonstrate is that us fickle fishos are drawn in for the slow moving boutique gear that can't be bought at BCF and stock up on mainstream whilst we are there. I imagine the parking meters that were eventually installed out front made it inconvenient for many and I imagine that the market rent for that part of town also surpassed that of what a tackle store could sustain. I wonder if they ever considered a relocation? Oh yes of course, there's the internet...... It would be interesting to know if the supacheap group tried to sell the business?
Personally now, I shop at Compleat Nedlands now, Brian and his team are all active fishos, there's plenty of boutique in the store, they're friendly, helpful and competitive.
Thanks Bob and Greg and of course Campbell's the store itself whom facilitated the leg up in life I really needed. If you're reading this by any chance or if anyone knows how I can contact them please PM me as I'd love to buy them a beer to say thanks.
Cheers
