I have 2 setups 1 is 9ft starlo stick mated witha a 5000 startic fj with 15 lb braid and the other is a 12 ft graphite rod mated to 8000 startic FJ with 20 lb braid and find they cover all my needs .
i use a stradic ci4 2500 with 15lb braid and a daiwa tdt 2-5kg rod for a bit of fun, long runs bit fights even for the small ones! definately recomend using around the 3000-4000 size range or 2500 if you want a bit of fun :P
it completely depends on where your fishing for them, and what way your targetting them. sure with baits, a bigger rod to get you out over swell and into the path of the schools. but for lures i only use a 6'6 4-6kg rod. and a 4000 size real. depending on how light your willing to go, anywhere from 6-20lb braid is useable. i find castability beyond 20lb becomes an issue. go light and have some fun. the quality of a fight far outweighs the quantity of fish i say. if your down south, drop into the boys at dunsborough outdoor sportz. local knowledge is an important thing. they will put you on the money.

Just depends on your
Just depends on your budget.
A reasonable combo would be a stradic 4000 and a 9ft starlo stick (if they still make them?) and 20lb braid. (about $350)
Oceanside have a tackle sale which is about to end but there are some pretty good deals happening and they'd be able to help you.

Toatally depends
on what type of fishing you doing and where your doing it? Anything from a 7ft to 14ft rod could be necessary.
For example at my local beach you require casts of up to 120m+ at times when the schools are hanging far out behind the breakers.
But if you fishing in the bay at say Pt Picque or Castle Rock sometimes you only need to cast 10m.
It pays to have a variety of casting outfits at times.
