Salmon Run

Hi this is my first comment so please reply.

I really love salmon and would love to hear others veiws on places, times, tackle  and anything else to do with catching salmon.

I usually fish off the beach all around the southwest and am willing to buy new tackle as I am new and do not yet own much.

Please reply as I am desperate to feel the bite of a big aussie salmon.

Dunno if there will be a salmon run this year as there are still many northen species getting caught in metro areas but the bureau has predicted the luewin current to not be as strong so who knows?!

have you got a tinny or boat? If so troll smiling jacks around inginup (dunsbrough) try and get close to the rocks but stay safe

If u are landbased try are around the beaches in dunsbrough eagle bay etc some big salmon are along here

im prob not the best person to talk to about salmon but i thought i might atleast give you abit of info

by the way - mulies on a paternoster off the beach is good but nothing beats a livie such as a small herring

There's been

Fri, 2013-01-25 21:10

quite a few Salmon Trout and occasional 'resident' Salmon being caught lately from the Cape Nat area.

Havn't seen or heard of many from the west coast yet. With the current warm water temps I wouldn't hold my breath for a 'normal' run again this year.

3yrs in a row, I wonder when things will return to 'normal'???

ps. Billstar, it's Injidup

Bunkers Bay

Sun, 2013-01-27 09:53

Had a few customers in last week saying they had caught salmon ( 3-5kg fish ) at the western end of Bunkers , other people were commenting on the Schools of large fish getting into the herring in the same area...Assuming they were resident fish as the water temp has pulsed in the last week or so , had local spearo's shooting Mackies at injidup week and a half ago ( 20kg fish) , so a good salmon run does seem unlikely . Having said that a few of the older locals recon it will happen this year.
