 water is only just warming

Mon, 2017-03-06 18:40

water is only just warming up here in Perth now, so they may be delayed imo, water last week was 22 degrees. and 22.8 out wide.

Actually it's quite the opposite! Water in he sound today was 23.9 degrees! And peaked for the year yesterday at 24.3! From now the water is actually getting cooler tomorrow will be around 23 and by next week around 22. The capes currant is flowing hard and the leewin currant has gone out wide and weekend hence why the warm water is retreating. Sad we only got the hot in the past week or so, and it's already leaving us! But I'm over summer imo bring on the salmon!

Thank you

Thank you for the info, if we are lucky we might have them invade the estuary like last year. I can't help wondering though if the scarcity of yellow fin whiting has something to do with the salmon being in the estuary last year, or the heavy pressure they have been placed under by the heavy attention they are receiving from the pros, and no I'am not anti pro fishing in the estuary but just like everything else you can only plunder the schools for so long before it takes it toll on the bio mass.

They can be funny animals at times, but generally they'll take anything you throw at them. Including live herring which they find hard to pass up. I prefer poppers though.

Cut 6 inch of back end off broom, eyelet hand-screwed into arse end and midway along underdside and centre of the cut face, add trebles via split ring and as swivel to the cut end eyelet and paint whatever colour (I go plain white or mulie style blue). works wonders, and is inexpensive. Travels just under the surface and at medium-fast wind they whack it good. I used a shitty 10+yr old rake handle and crappy eyelets from a wall hanging kit that were rusty to start with and they lasted two full seasons. I decided to rig the eyelets with snap swivels so i could replace trebles as often as i wanted.

Otherwise live hezza is best as above i reckons !

gotta love them

Wed, 2017-03-15 02:59

I love Salmon.....some of the clowns that come out are a bummer................

The litter bugs

Take every fish they land

Leaving fish heads on the beach

4x4 mad max drivers

Spot invaders...( See a hooked fish so pull up and cast wildly until they tangle your line )Last year we had this happen so we politely left them to it and low and behold we came across a patch of Salmon about 50 square going off right on the shore from ankle deep.... SCORE.....Single hook lures are king at times  like this.

The bonus is that with all the people running around I find some great stuff lost by others......

salmon

Sat, 2017-03-18 08:03

I am happy to get one and process and eat.I seen some T.V. show where you dry BBQ fish by bouncing it around in a bag full of spices then putting it on a dry hotplate for a few minutes then flipping it and dropping a small amount of butter on the cooked side to remoisten it.works great for salmon you get the fish texture and spice flavour.I have been to gatherings where people wrap a whole salmon in foil and bake it.I dont have the heart to tell them it will be unedible unless you are totally stoned

Best place for a salmon if you take it home is under the vege patch, or plant a passion fruit on top of it.

Huge, huge bust up just off

Sat, 2017-03-25 15:39

Huge, huge bust up just off Carnac today with birds everywhere about the size of a suburban footy oval. Went for a cruise through and got a strike a run before it spat the hooks. Tried again but the huge clumps of weed made it impossible to get a good run at it so headed back to the bread and butter species.

Mon, 2017-04-03 14:05

Was down at Augusta on the weekend and rock fishing was definitely a no go so after checking out the efforts of a blokes not catching anything we had a crack at a couple of beaches between the Marina and the lighthouse that looked likely with Richter plugs for zilch. We tried driving along the coast and spotting them from the high ground but the huge swells, overcast weather, murky water and 15kn winds made it impossible to spot schools and we didn't make the treck to Hamlin Bay as conditions would have been worse. Was pretty damn dissapointed especially after seeing on Salmon tracker they were going off in Augusta yesterday when I was on the way back home!!

Plenty out there today. Rounded the heads at woodies and there they were 100m from the groyne smashing up scalies. Caught a few then on the way out could see landbased fishos getting stuck into a few out near the actual point and then plenty more out on the reefs. Sharks, seals and dolphins all getting a feed aswell
