Newbie's Horse

Newbie's Horse

Ok, another BW (Southern Queeny/Queen Snapper if you like) -  I prefer Blue Morwhong - 'cause, well, that's what it is.

ANYWAY! Caught this in August 2005 when we forsat came down hear from Perth. First drop on the first day I was out with my ex work's (then) accountant. (Then) work mates were spewed due to the size - didn't have scales on me that day but reckon by others I've caught a weighed - would have done 7, maybe 9.  THIS one gave me some curry. A great introduction to Blue Morwhong, I'm sure you'll agree.

Oh, sorry for the 'unkept' apprearance

As you can see - the water was GLASS - had only ONE day out there like that - in 2.5 years.

Thanks Adam! Well, we

Thanks Adam!

Well, we launch from Emu Point Albany (cause the boats a bit big for a beach launch with small wife deckie assisting) and pretty well head out all over the place. With a 115 opti and 144L of fuel, we have a pretty good range.

I've caught them pretty well every time we've gone out - so there's plenty of them pretty much everywhere.

Any depth from 3 to 40m Adam.

Mind you, prefer catch pinkies and reds any day.

Like any demersal predetor, anywhere where the sounder shows good structure.

plague

Tue, 2007-12-04 10:16

When we fish out of Walpole they are almost in plague proportions, not that I'm complaining mind you! I like queeny just as much as pinky on the plate, but would definately take reds over both of them!!

Do you have to go far to find the fish? I've never boat fished east of Denmark so don't really know whats out that way.

Cheers,
Adam

I love the hug you are giving it. That is a great fish, whatever anyone likes to call it.

Response and Thanx

Tue, 2007-12-04 11:43

Adam - No, don't have to go far at all - well more or less out of the (King George) sound will increase chances, but having said that, I've caught them and pinkies in the sound - on the right day. Yes, agreed on the Reds, definately, beautiful fish. Plague proportions eh? Yes, I suspect Denamrk way, you'd have more untouched territory (less all year round boats).

Colin - Thanks Col - mate; I wasn't huggin it, I was trying to keep it under control while my mate took a pic. Bugga was a strong brut - and none to happy - funny that.

Boat Harbour is the same

Tue, 2007-12-04 15:09

I fish out of Albany as well Colin. Like you say, Queenies are everywhere (like blowies).
My favourite spot though would have to be out off Boat Harbour. Don't have to go far to
find fish.

Out around the Islands in Albany you can't go wrong either. Don't have to go far
past the Islands to get into deep water either. Got some good spots just out from
where the gap is.

Whats the weather been like down there??

Cheers,
Higgo

The Weather

Tue, 2007-12-04 15:22

G'Day Higgo

Stone fished Boat Harbour, but would be a bit of a slug to get the boat down there, though a beach launch wouldn't be a problem due to the sheleteredness (if that's a word LOL).

Yup there is some good ground  south of the gap - like everywhere isn't it, just have to put in the time and look around.

Higgo, the weather down here has been shocking, positively flatulent!

I can't even get anyone to go with me during the week - arrrrrrghhhhhh!!! LOL

Boat Harbour is awesome

Higgo

Totally agree i have fished at Boat Harbour years ago on Alec Brentons boat crack a tinny 2. Poor old bugger is now deceased. Anyway he used to go a fair way out and we would always come back with a boat load of fish.

Definately a awesome spot

If all goes to plan I'll be

Thu, 2007-12-06 15:18

If all goes to plan I'll be heading out through there over X-mas!!

Bloody weather can be the problem in that area though (Southern ocean in general)

Are they catching any Crays down there??

Forgot to mention the great catch mate, fantastic size.

Boat Harbour should remain a top fishing area due to the fact

it's hard to get to. We chuck the boat in at Peaceful bay and drive around.

too hard to get the boat into Boat Harbour and launch in the little bay.

Not sure if you've heard of the Quarrum but that fires as well.

Bloody deep water and you don't have to go far out to

get top fish.

Quarram

Spent many a time at Quarram, top fishing for salmon when it fires and heard of some monster mulloway being pulled, but haven't been lucky myself.

Higgo - Yup, the southern

Thu, 2007-12-06 16:11

Higgo - Yup, the southern ocean is a completely different ball game to the Indian, isn't it.  I've found that the easterley swells are the worst - took a trip round to false island (the other way from Boat Harbour) and the swell was amazing - a 2.5m easterley - looked like a 4m from other directions.
I've done the run in to Boat Harbour a few times - any 4by with half decent clearance will make that soft S at the end, but, as you say, no go with a two tonne boat!

Thanks for the compliment on the fish!

Can't tell you anything on the crays.

Once again - weather this weekend looks ^&%$#ed!
