Ditto to the 8000 Saragosa Failure

Mon, 2013-02-25 00:10

Mine had an unbelievable amount of movement in the mainshaft and the main gear bearings,it had caught a couple of sails but hadn't done a lot of high speed spinning ,  Bluewater Exmouth looked after me big time and replaced the body , happy Camper now .

Saragosa (Shimano Stella's younger brother)'

Mon, 2013-02-25 01:11

Wihtout a doubt the Shimano Saragosa would be the pick.

The Saragosa is a tough as nails reel which is smooth and easy to use.

1) It comes with a 10 year warranty as opposed to the 1 year warranty offered by Dawai.

2) It has a waterproof drag and SARB (Stainless anti-rust bearings) which the saltist also does not have.

3) The best all round Saragosa size is the 10000F as it can be used on any appication, from beach to rocks and boat.

4) The Saragosa has interchangable handles, Eg: Game and Jgging grips. (Purchased Separate).

I have a 14000F myself and have landed massive Rays, Gt's and Pink Snapper. One of the highest performing spinning reels on the market!

At the end of the day they are both excellent reels, however the Dawai is overpriced and the handle feels like it came out a ceral box.

Hope some of that info helps!

Fished the Pilbarra Hard

Have 2 Stella's and by now 7 Gosa's. A few lost to the deamons of the Ocean, but not due to Failure. They are tough as nuts. I would say a upgrade on the evr reliable Spheros, rather than a down grade stella. Reliable as a well fiting bull logo boot.

Shimano 10 year warrantee

Mon, 2013-02-25 20:14

I had the screw that holds the bail arm snap. Took in in for repair and the thread on that screw was cross threaded causing the stress on the screw head resulting in the failure. This must of been in manufacture as I have never touched that screw.

Shimano said otherwise and would not cover the warrantee. They said it was lack of proper maintenance.

I had the reel for over a year but used it maybe 3 times.

To say I was shocked at their response would be an understatement. The tackle shop that I purchased it from was also very shocked and repaired the reel for me for free. My thanks to Phil from Complete Angler and Camping Rockingham

That all said, I have both Saragossa and Saltist (it was a Stradic that the bail broke)and would rate the 'Gosa over the saltist. Just feels smoother but both have stopped some big fish

If you're considering the Saltist take a look at the Seagates as well - 4.7:1 ratio, 7+1 bearings.  My Seagate 4500 has been punished and still going strong and smooth without issue!
