Someone asked recently about picking up sand whiting on your sounder?
Yesterday we were out off Mindarie, just north of the leads outside the reef and got a good feed of sand whiting. this is a screen shot I got as we were catching them. a couple were good size. Most were average, with a few small ones and some even smaller thrown back.

Yes it is. It is what the
Yes it is. It is what the sounder is interpreting as the bottom. on mine sounder I think it is called "depth line"?? Handy in this situation because you can distinctly see the extra markings above what the unit thinks is the bottom.

I think we've got that same spot marked on our gps as "Whiting HQ"! good for a feed but not as livies due to pulling them up from 20m they don't last long in the livey tank.

I asked if anyone had any sounder shots of confirmed whiting, and you have answered it with aplomb thank you I can now look at the picture and keep it in my minds eye next time I'm out on the water

If you are NoR, head out on
If you are NoR, head out on the leads at mindarie and once past the reef turn north. I think we were west of Stagge Reef in 17 - 22 metres of water. Plenty of whiting around there.

Happy with your Simrad
Goodday, I have just bought a simrad 7 inch sounder from the boat show just waiting to install it. Q1 Are you happy with the simrads performance? Q2 It is difficult to operate? Q3 Have you got the chirp model and do you use the chirp mode? Q4 What is the Max depth you have used the unit and what transducer are you running? Thanks

Q1. Yes very happy. Still
Q1. Yes very happy. Still learning how to tune it.
Q2. Very easy to operate. Touch screen, push button and control knob operation or a combination of all three.
Q3. I don't have the CHIRP model (I think that's the latest model)
Q4. 75m. I am running the standard lowrance 50 / 200, 600 watt transducer.
Go to the simrad youtube channel. They have some good short instructional videos on operating it. One great feature is the ability to plot a way point whilst on the echo screen. Touch the screen once to activate the cursor, then press and hold your finger where you see fish or structure or bait ball, and the unit will create a new way point at that location.
:)
Good luck.
