I still reckon the sensitivity is too high on your unit ranadall. Are you also able to change the backdrop pallette to a dark colour?

 Yes I can.  Experimenting

Sun, 2014-11-02 19:51

Yes I can.  Experimenting with a white background atm.  Lots of others to choose from.  I was on my own when I took that second pic, so I was trying to fish rather than stuff around with the settings. Lol.  What caught my attention was the bait busting the surface in front of my drift, so as I moved over it I took a snapshot.

It's good to be able to

Sun, 2014-11-02 19:56

It's good to be able to review the settings when I get a good picture like the first one.  Next time I can start with those settings....  just got to remember to record them....  I think I should note the settings on the waypoints.

Hey RandallIs that black line

Mon, 2014-11-03 12:37

Hey Randall

Is that black line on the bottom the equivalent of the "white line" on other sounders and it is just separating the bottom from fish echoes etc ? If so what is all of the blue and green just above the black line and below what i take to be fish echoes. Its more evident in the second pic in the zoomed shot of the bottom on the left.

cheers

Yes the black line is what

Mon, 2014-11-03 13:18

Yes the black line is what the unit interprets the bottom to be and I believe it is called white line or mesh line on some units.  The blue and green are just weaker echos.  Their colour is purely dependant upon the colour pallette I choose.  The second image isn't great.  My settings were a bit out.  Too much sensitivity and the range is set a bit shallow. The prevailing conditions accounts for the difference in the bottom echo between the images.  The first one was taken on a windy raining south wester with an short wind wave.  The second was saturday afternoon when the seabreeze was about three knots and it was pretty flat.

 Good stuff Randall, is that

Sun, 2014-11-02 19:49

Good stuff Randall, is that still on the sand flats or over hard ground this time?

The echo looks stronger so just curious about what I'm looking at.

I think you and I fish pretty similar places. Once I've got my anchor issues back under control I'll be back out there!

Both on sand.  Different range setting and different sensitivity setting.  As SK says, probably too high and on a shallower range in the second pic.

water temp to rise

Sun, 2014-11-02 19:57

In the paper earlier this week there was an article from some marine centre saying that there are alarming signs that we may be in for another "water heat wave".
Later on this year extending into next year. The article stated that if there predictions are right it will have a dramatic negative effect on the cray season and the local fish populations will suffer and change in make up.
With the above observation on water temperature it is looking like another heat spike in water temperatures is highly likely to become a fact.

On Saturday I was getting 19c at the east end of rottnest and then it shot up to 21c by the time we got out to the wrecks on the west end of rottnest.

We spent most of the day

Mon, 2014-11-03 10:46

We spent most of the day trolling along the north edge of rottnest without any action.

Once we got to the wrecks we had a quick jig and pulled up a sambo. While we were jigging we spotted some bird action out on the horizon so we headed out towards it but it dissapeared just as we got to it.

Judging by other peoples posts we should have stuck closer to the coast.
