Whats your interpretation?

On the way back in from out deep, we stopped at a spot I had been given but never fished before. My deckie dropped some big baits and I dropped a jig down.

Nothing.

Looking at this, I suspect next time I stop here I should have a whiting rig ready to go? I am looking at the thin light green line right on the bottom reading and thinking whiting?

Fri, 2014-09-26 22:02

i would think MAYBE whiting nothing else. can you adjust your depth range if so make it 50m for that depth that way you can see the tails better. ( the green and blue )

edit, iam talking bottom

That line at 20m looks to me

Sat, 2014-09-27 07:57

That line at 20m looks to me like a ghost echo as it's the same cotour as the bottom. I agree with Carnarvonite, prob weed.

I notice that the green line

Sat, 2014-09-27 08:25

I notice that the green line thickens up at the same point that the white starts to show in the water column above the bottom. It is like the gain has started to increased at this point.

Sea-kem I doubt it is a ghost echo as if it was a fish sitting at a constant depth it would show the same contour as the bottom as any change in depth showing is more likely to be swell rather than the bottom changing

Yeah I see what you are saying Crano as it does look like a strong return. Maybe BL would sort the image out a little clearer.

Thermocline

Sat, 2014-09-27 10:15

The interference in mid water is probably due to a thermocline where there is a pocket of water at a different temperature to the levels above and below it

i was thinking it looks like you turned to gain or sensitivity up the green line and all that blue clutter youve got appeared at the same time. .. the rest of your bottom trace has slight green line.

I too think the aberations midwater is thermoclines

But reading still Sounder screens can and is a challenge. I would love to see whiting on that setting, but Im also a convert that it is weed.

Go back and see if is doubters are wrong and it IS whiting.
