Sandy Dinghy Report
I got up to Sandy Capes on Tuesday for a couple of nights with the plan on taking no food and no bait and living Malcolm Douglas style. The pressure was on and at one stage thought we might be going hungry hehe.
We got the dinghy out on Wednesday and was treated to some perfect conditions, we threw some lures out whilst going though the breakers and it didn’t take long for the skirt to go off. My Mate’s biggest fish to date was a 4kg Spango so we had a target to beat and from this fish’s fist run, we knew this fish would smash it. He fought the fish for over 10mins before it ran into the reef and left us scratching our heads, It was only 4m where the fish grabbed the lure so I was thinking either sambo or BIG pinky. Flat and disappointed we headed out and started looking for some ground. We trolled around for around for 3hours with not much coming up on the sounder and no action from the lures.
It was now 11:30 and we hadn’t landed anything so I decided to start heading in and resort to Skippy when I found some nice ground, lures down and I was getting a few bumps and then finally a little dhue lifted our spirits.
We measured and were pleased when he went 550mm, we did another drift and again I got another dhue followed by another both were around the same size and went back. Next drift I hooked up solid and was loosing alot of line before he spat the hook. We decided to have one more drift as our bellies were rumbling, this time it was my mates turn to hook up, the fish took some line and got him in the reef, with some drag cranking he managed to free the fish and landed the first baldy in the dinghy and probably the biggest I have seen landed at 5.5kg.
We well and truly had a good feed now and headed in with Breaching whales saying goodbye.
Thanks for reading Miles

Thanks guys, Sandy cape is about 10mins past Jurien.
Would have to be close to the freshest fish I’ve eaten also, wasn’t out of the water for more than an hour before hitting the pan. Bit of cheeky flake.
