We were out for a good chunk of the day. The weather was fantastic early and then the southerly came in at about 11.45. We had no problems hooking sambos and ambers. The sharks got everything except two ambers which were boated. Kept one which was super on the BBQ last night. I had no idea they taste that good. We saw two other sambos come up that were bitten in half and the charters were not getting much except a few sharks that we saw. Report and photos coming. Not even any tuna on the bite, although, we trolled through a few schools.

Bring on the 16th....

Don't get caught jigging for demersals on 15th or Mr Fisheries might want to have a chat with you!

From my understanding, the season is closed from 15 October to 15 December inclusive.

I'm with you schecky (and everyone else), can't wait for 16th....let's hope the weather gods are kind to us.

15 October to 15 December (inclusive)

The wording in the Dept of Fisheries publication titled 'Recreational Fishing Guide - West Coast Region' (published July 2010) on page 5 under the heading 'Bag and Size Limits' states: HIGH RISK 'DEMERSAL' SPECIES The West Coast Closure applies to all species in this table - 15 October to 15 December (inclusive).

We all know the fish in the high risk category....cods, coral trout and coronation trout, Dhufish, Emperors (nor west snapper), foxfish and pigfish, groper, parrot fish, pink snapper, queen snapper, red snapper, tropical snappers and sea perch.

Hope this helps.
