Saturday swell

It's been 3 months since I have taken my 4.5 metre f/g dinghy out and I have been sick of hearing tales of the snapper that are around at the moment.  The wind on Saturday looks great, but the swells are around the 2 metre mark.  As a relative newby at navigating through the reef off Hillaries, can anyone tell me how that swell forcast will affect getting out to clean water?  Thanks in advance.

Baz

no problems getting out on that sort of swell, there is a gap in the reef due west of the marina that is pretty safe or you can head south down around the south cardinal marker which is very safe.

the marina in a 2 metre swell in a  dinghy if i didnt know the area. Your best going down around the southern cardinal marker. I only do that gap if the swell is a metre -  best to be safe

Thanks for that info guys.  I haven't been out around the south cardinal marker, so I will check it out and see how I go.

+1 for avoiding the gap in 2m

+1 for avoiding the gap in 2m if you're unfamiliar with it. Even as you drive through on a calm day it looks shallow either side so you'd have to get it dead right.

Fish early for near shore

Why not get out at first light and fish the broken ground inside the reef and avoid the hassle. Anchor up and get your burley going and you have as good a chance as anywhere else to get a snapper.
