shallow water sounder shots - mud (swan river)
Submitted by randall df223 on Mon, 2015-01-05 19:35
simrad nss7 shots from last weekend when I was crabbing. The shallower water is under the narrows in between the northern bank and the northern pylon.
The deeper shots are over near como buoy. The only explanation I can give for the weaker echos in the top half of the water column is jellyfish. anyone want to comment on that? not sure if they show up on sounders?

I get
I get those weak echo's up river too, even with the gain turned right down. I believe they are mostly jelly fish and other stuf drifting with the tide.
At the moment I am also seeing alot of bait, and if its spread out it clutters the screen too.

In the bottom pics, I would
In the bottom pics, I would say weed. In the top pic, the clumps of green could be weed or small bait. I think the stronger bottom echo in the top pic (with a bit of red in it) could be a weed covered rock with a fish sitting off the top of it.

My guess
The thin line across the top is the lighter layer of silt, leaves and mud?
Anything caught around these spots?

I was crabbing at the time and just watching the sounder in my spare time. No lines in the water.

Great to see these shots.
Great to see these shots. I've just installed a Dragonfly 7 and was getting very similar images with the little spots. Most of mine were little arches though.
