Shark Bay

Hi All

I am taking the family to Shark Bay for a week. We are leaving this Friday and I will be taking the tinny with 4.2m.
I have read through the old forum topics on fishing in this area, but would appreciate some tips and advice.
We will be camping in the Monkey Mia resort, being a family holiday but would still want to do some serious fishing while there.

Any suggestions please.

Thanks
Jack

balloon red bluff at night you get some nice sharks.

There is usually a moderate SWly

Heaps of little rays, shovelys just casting distance on the beach never know what you`ll get

(just dont walk waist deep and fish when there is burley around might see a few big shadows swim past.....)

At the start of this month...

My partner and i took the boat up from Geraldton, yep... blew like 35knots the whole time we were there. Didnt expect anything different at this time of the year tho. Stayed in Shark Bay, First time i had fished out of there, a little disappointed. Considering mate from work went to Steep Point a couple of days earlier and cleaned up!!! Got out half way to the Island and also dropped a line in around the bent pin i think it was called. Picked up a heap of small mackys and loads of smaller fish but nothing else to really brag about. Oh and the good old norwest blowies!!! Few of them, bloody pests!! But hoping to get up there somtime early next year, when the weather is a bit better...i hope you get some nice weather unlike us. Always next time tho! But a very nice place

If you have a 4WD try

If you have a 4WD try launching the tinnie off the beach at Bottle Bay. There are good Tailor Spaniards pinkies etc just out from the beach. There is also a small reef that can be seen breaking out to the south....try there. I have fished the beaches there twice this year and if the wind is not blowing you will have a ball. If you cant get the boat out...try the beach for large yellow fin whiting ( 31cm ) / flathead the usual Tailor etc...even some soapies at night in close. There are oysters on the rocks just to the south of the beach access and if the tide is up high try berleying up for Tailor off the rocks...use chrome splices / mulies or soft plastics....have fun mate
