Shark Bay Advice

Hi all, I haven't been to Shark Bay before and I'm thinking of going this year. I've got a 6.5m boat that gets me most places and I'm keen landbased. I've done the search thing on here too. I would like to ask how you guys find it as an all round fishing holiday destination? I know its a great place for snapper but can you also have a troll for tuna and macs on a slow day, is there places worth trying for trevs or to cast lures on the flats for anything? If the wind picks up are there places to fish on the other side of dehnam? The water looks quite shallow aswell so I'm guessing you would have to drive around and find where the schools are holding? Is Dirk Hartog worth driving to and fishing for a day trip? I understand that it usually takes a while to work a spot out before you can get onto fish and enjoy the satisfaction doing it that way but I don't want to head to Shark Bay if its just a fill your freezer with snapper spots. I would like to try a few different things if I'm going away and catch a few different species for mainly sport. Looking forward to your responses, cheers. Brent

I camped at shelter bay and had great fun flats fishing - heaps of whiting & flatties, mig yellowfin bream, snapper, even a bluebone - all in knee deep crystal clear water !

few boats anchored off the beach there - easy access to dirk Hartog too

The road into Shelter bay is

The road into Shelter bay is a long dirt track and the last section can get a bit soft and bumpy. You may struggle towing a 6.5 meter boat. People do tow their boats there but I think they are normally a bit smaller.

Also there is no power, water, fuel or food at shelter bay so you need to bring everything.

If you do go then it's a short boat ride out past Steep point and lots of mackeral and tuna in the area. Also a short trip across to DHI.

Yeah just checked it out Dtrain, think it might be hard towing 2.2 tonnes through sand. Might have to cross that off

Put the boat in the water at Denham and get some one to drive the 4x4 around by road towing the empty trailer with he skipper sailing the boat across.
