Shark biffo at cott

As reported front page of the subiaco post newspaper.
"Shark fishermen in violent clash"
Two locals hospitalised, at least one 'fisherman' taken down to the east perth lockup. Morons.
It's up to all of us to stand up to this behaviour whenever we see it.
Don't walk away, place some calls or else arc up.

Can anyone quote the law
Can anyone quote what the law is in regards to the taking of a photo of some one in a public place without seeking their permission (the subject person). Not what they think it is, but what it actually is.

This is part
This is part of an article I found. It also goes on about private property or using the picture/footage to slander someone.
But mostly (as I understand it) If you are in a public place you can be photographed or filmed unless it is of a sexual nature.
( There are different rules for photographing or recording things depending on whether you are in a public place or on private property.
A public place is a social space that is open and accessible to all, like a park. Generally, you have a right to take photos and videos of public places and the people within them.
But if you are taking photos or videos in a way that is offensive or a nuisance to those around you, this can be a crime.
For example, even though most beaches are public places, you can get in trouble for taking invasive photos of people in their swimmers without their permission.
Private property is a space where the owner can set rules or restrict entry.
This includes homes, shops, sport and performance venues, museums and galleries, schools and similar places.
These places can make rules that ban people from photographing or recording any part of the space or the people within it (unless they can be seen from a public space).
Even if they don’t have specific rules, keep in mind that taking photos or videos of art or performances can break copyright laws. )
At the end of the day, like it or not , the city of Cottesloe banned shark fishing some years ago, and IMO bashing people (not hearing the other side of the story ) is not the way to handle a situation like that .

It is covered by the
It is covered by the surveillance devices act as far as consent and making a recording. Basically if you are doing something in a public place (or even in a private place that is viewable to the public in normal circumstances), they dont need your consent to record it.
So of youre doing aerobics in front of the tv with the curtains and blinds wide open and some walks past your house and can see what youre doing, they can take a photo. If you close the curtains they cant sneak up and put a camera under the door. If you are sunbathing nude in your backyard and there is a big hill near by, and you are visible, too bad, but your neighbour cant fly a drone overhead and get footage.
If you are fishing on a public jetty, you're fair games for photographs.

Harrasment
Sounds very much like the locals were harassing the fisherman. The fisherman were minding there own business, until a camera was shoved into their face. Unfortunately, they resorted to violence, as the defence, but they were probably copping the abuse for quite sometime and this was the straw that broke the camels back.

Randall df223 is on the money. It's legal to photograph/film people in a public place.
It's illegal to shark fish in areas deemed illegal to shark fish from.
Also illegal to assault people.
Article should replace the word "Shark fishers" with "Criminals" and make mention of the activity in passing, not make it the thrust of the article. But sharks do seem to ignite people and sell news.

It just gets worse
Todays "West" has a story of a prominent surfer who was nearly had by a shark some where of Africa saying that now he wants to see sharks culled as a result of so many people taken over the last couple of years.
Wasn't a boat employed on a government contract catching sharks of the Cottesloe beaches a couple of years ago, or am I lost on places and time.
