Shark Perception Survey
A student of Robert Brander, an Associate Professor at University of New South Wales, is studying people's perceptions of sharks based on their background and ocean usage.
Personally, i think it's the first piece of research that has the potential to move the debate forward. They'll be able to determine the perceptions toward sharks from people who do and do not use the ocean.
Here's what their aim is...
"The aim of the survey is to contribute valuable data that will help bridge the gap between policy, shark management and public opinion. We are particularly interested in how your personal background (e.g. where you grew up) and interaction with beaches and the ocean ahve influenced your perceptions of sharks."

put my two cents worth in.
If you are in fear of possibly encountering a shark,
a get a shark shield
b understand what are the main feeding times and prey of sharks and don't dress up in something that mimics their main food.
c stay out of the ocean and use water parks instead.
just my view, we are all allowed to put forward what we think and not be disrespectful of others who have different views opinions.

I'm sure the shark shield type systems are improving all the time but until such a time when they are unoticable to wear then a sport like surfing can't/wont buy in especially when they still are not a sure thing...
Lets see a cute chic dripped in tuna gutz swimming gracefully around the Neptunes wearing a shark shield and survive then i'll buy in....
Time of day has not mattered!!
In fact if you DYOR then you'll actually find most have been middle of the day type attacks....
Lets respect them and cull....
