Shelter Bay Campsites

Hi there.

I've been going to Steep Point for the last 10 years or so camping at Shelter Bay, normally the Easter 1 or 2 campsites.

This year (June) we couldn't get Easter and stayed at Lombardos.

Campsite was good, but the anchorage was terrible. Normally I put a mooring system in, with a big admiralty anchor. Works well at Easter. In front of Lomabardos, the bottom was flat limestone covered in around 2cms of sand. The anchor just couldn't dig in. Eventually I found a large rock and I just wrapped the anchor around it and we managed.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with either of Wellard 1, 2 or 3, or Hull 3 campsites with respect to anchoring.

Cheers

Terry

We had a few anchored out from Wellard when we were there. They didnt seem to have too many problems holding.

Wellards is normally fine and is the area with the most sand in a bad year

it does depend on the year. As the last few the reef/roscks to the east of wellards has been more exposed than normal

cheers
