They seemed a bit pricy to me
~$25 a jig? Particularly when the octa jigs are around $10 a pop. I may be wrong, but I've caught fish on my octa jigs no worries (no dhuies, but others have I believe).
Are they 2.5 times better? Debatable....

not really IMO
one is a glorified sinker with a rubber skirt attached, and ones a swimming lure that needs to impart a more "life-like" action.

Start out on the octas.
Start out on the octas. They're cheaper, and they still catch fish. Drop jig to the bottom, wind up perhaps a meter or two then either either rod in the rod holder and back off the drag, or slow, gentle sweeps of the rod. Alternatively, use them as a sinker on a paternoster (the lucanus can get caught less due to their hook setup, but they're not impervious to getting snagged)
Have seen fish caught on the lucanus, but havent myself. The octas come with stronger hooks to start off with though. (the lucanus are fine, but not if you're using 50lb line, and they're a little small. I dont change them, but I fish 30lb max).

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

was at bluewater today was looking at the lucanus was only $20
think octo was $14 i took a octo to abrolos last sept only caught a small pinky
and i had to put bait on the hooks
was hopeing to get the baldys on the jig will try the lucanus next month
getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

On about my last 6 bottom
On about my last 6 bottom bouncing outing i have used these style jigs only.I prefer the octa's over the lucanus only because there cheaper and have a better hook setup both will catch fish,As hlokk your not going straighten lucanus(Have landed a 12kg dhuie on a 100gram lucanus) hook anyway unless you really lock the drag up.I have found compared to the people i fish with (they use bait) that jigs will catch more varietys of fish and generally the bigger fish.I have even hooked octopus on the jigs!

I started out using Octa
I started out using Octa jigs then I started using the more expensive Lucanus and Raba jigs with heaps more success. I compared them side by side in the water and the more expensive ones had a much nicer action, especially the Daiwa Bay Rubbers. I never buy Octas anymore. I replace the hooks with a single Owner SJ41 3/0 or 5/0 depending on the size of the jig and use stronger assist cord. I'm quite happy to do this as I get to use exactly what hooks I want (I'm used to doing this all the time with GT poppers and various other jigs). After I've modified I can go pretty hard with 50lb if I need to put the brakes on a good red or trout. We've got reds to 9kg and trout to 700mm.

I have used the Lucanis jigs
I have used the Lucanis jigs with good results on Snapper, I use the smallest ones I can get to the bottom (80-200gr), Out fished three others using bait once and also caught the two biggest as well - all the ones on bait were ruggers (pan sized) on this particular trip. I did 'cheat' and have a bit of squid on the hooks though..... even caught one after losing the skirt (still spiced with squid) Hooks weren't a problen for snapper but would need to be upgarded if anything bigger is on the cards. I have seen the octas but prefered to buy the Luncanis (i was getting them around $20 so not a lot of diff in price) but thats not to say the Octas would have not caught the same fish if they were in the water.
I slowly lift the rod up and down though sometimes the wave action does this for you, can also be left in a holder. Don't strike when you feel a bite just slowly wind in and they hook themselves (may nee to strike if you change the hook style/type).
Cheers and good luck which ever you use.
