Shimano Warranty

Recently I had my first issue with one of the Shimano reels I have.
I guess unfortunately from time to time some things do go wrong, when they shouldn't.
At this point OEM's can be judged on how they are corrected, or not.
Last Friday I went back to where I purchased the reel from 2 years ago and showed them what had happened, I did not ask for warranty just explained what went wrong.
The guys I dealt with said it shouldn't have failed and would submit a warranty claim on Shimano.
Today I received a phone call from the shop I returned my reel to saying the failed part was replaced and ready for collection warranty covered.
The new handle was wrapped in a Shimano Australia bag and handed back to me 7 days after I had inquired about a repair, 5 working day's so to speak.
So I have to say well done to Shimano for dealing with issue and rectifying in a more that timely manner but also a credit to the retailer for submitting it to them quickly to enabled a prompt repair.
Well done.

Shimano Rod Claim

Sat, 2014-03-15 07:48

I recently went through a claim with Shimano Australia for a broken Rod. Unfortunately for me it was made a bit difficult due to a Shimano dealer where I live not accepting claims if it was not bought from them, or to be more precise if it was purchased from a certain store on the East Coast.

After contacting Shimano directly all I had to do was send it off to them. I received a replacement rod straight away, well had to wait due to useless transport companies.

Cant fault Shimano's customer service at all. Some of their dealers on the other hand, well I guess that is why customers can choose where to spend their hard earned.

Not sure it would happen

Sat, 2014-03-15 08:10

Not sure it would happen today, but many years ago I was given a baitrunner 4500b by my brother which had a dodgy anti reverse. Took it to ranger( getaways) Bentley to get it fixed at my charge. The bloke at that time said' look the reel should be under warranty as that model was out for less than ten years'. The end story was, he gave it to his shimano rep, within a couple of months I got a call and the reel was fixed, no receipt, no charge.
