Shortbilled Spearfish

There has been an unusual amount of Shortbilled Spearfish off the NSW Coast the last few weeks , do you get them over there in the west and if so how big do they get ?

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Have it listed in my 'book of NW sea fishes' but never heard of one being caught here. Blacks, blues, sails and broadbills seem to be the only 'common' bills.

I've been raising plenty of Optus, Origen, RAC and Water Corp bills lately.

They're some of the more common ones too.  Must be the season for them.

One was captured ( by hand ) in shallow water between Greenhead and Leeman last year. It was obviously sick. I dont think they normally swim in 2 foot of water. So "yes" I guess we do get them here

 I caught one off Kona,Hawaii

Thu, 2011-03-17 21:40

I caught one off Kona,Hawaii when I was 15, it was around 50kg.  I was told they are a naturally occuring cross between two other kinds of billfish, but I kinda doubt that is correct.  Anyway, mine went hard on medium tackle.
