snakeheads in the philippines

hi guys,

went to a snakehead comp last weekend. was lucky to net a 5.2kg snakehead. in malaysia they call it toman while in manila we call it dalag. i used a shakespear contender 6'6" baitcast rod with a prodigy reel. loaded with 10# tufline and 20# floro. i used a squidgy 100mm fish green on a 3/8 jighead with a 2/0 hook.

btw, mods if ot kindly move to the proper forum. thanksSmile

Nice fish and I like all the gear info.

Where abouts in Malaysia were you fishing?

Do they tend to live in quite weedy/snaggy areas or fight relatively cleanly? (well, apart from the runs, headshakes and jumps, now when can I go catch one :p)

Always interested in someone to go fishing with

hi bro,

actually im not from malaysia, im from the philippines. i caught it in an impoundment 2hrs from our capital city , manila.

yes, they live in weedy and snaggy areas. i lost 5 plastics from snags before i got a proper hookup. you can find them in the philippines, thailand, malaysia and indo.

Great catch there. A 5 kilo Toman is a monster! Even better to get it on a lure. And yes Haruan is also very prized catch. Very expensive fish back home in Malaysia.

it was really a lucky catch. not really into freshwater, used saltwater techniques and worked =).

what do you use for toman in malaysia?
