Snapper SP Rod help?
Submitted by J Déjà Vu on Sun, 2015-03-29 21:29
hey all im in the market for a new rod for
snapper using soft plastics fishing in 40-60ft of water with 1oz jig heads.
i want a rod that is reel comfortable in your hands and in your arms.
would run a 3000 stradic or 3500 game reel on it fishing 16-30lb braid.
I am after a quality rod, after been using a daiwa generation black 5-10kg model lately its pretty average and sore on the arms.
your advice would be much appreciated thanks

Same question
Hi Deja, I have been looking at the same issue.
BCF currently has stradic fj combo deals on the go. I saw that you can get a 4000 size reel and a shimano sahara rod for $219 (basically, you get the rod for free). Rods are 6'9 (4-6kg), 7' (2-5kg) or 7'3 (6-8kg). Not sure which rod to pick. I would like the 7'3, but may be too long for a boat?
Hopefully we can get some input from our valued members?

I run my stradic fj 4000 on
I run my stradic fj 4000 on a eupro salty fighter. Use it for plastics and jigs. I had the blue gomoku which snapped and was rated pe 1-3
but this salty fighter is by far a better rod rated at pe .8 - 2 and stronger feeling under load

Shimano terez
Hi. I currently use a couple of terez rods. Have a big range of models and very well made. Dont know which ones I have but Ive got one about 7 foot for spango poppin and jiggin with 4000 certate 30lb fins and its great. If your buyin a new rod put the reel you want on it and get someone to load the rod up cause some rods look good but dont load up the way you think they should or feel good in the hand. Most good tackle shops are happy to put a reel on a rod and load it up for you.

Have you considered one of
Have you considered one of the Yamaga Blanks Blue Snipers?
I do a lot of plastic work on my Sniper 77/3. There's an 81/2 that is coming out next month also that I am getting a couple of to try.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I don't fish for snapper (
I don't fish for snapper ( not too many in the pilbara) but I have a samurai reaction 502 matched to a certate 3500 hd that I use for plastics, light enough to use all day but plenty of grunt to put the hurt on the fish

Me, TimVB and DazSamFishing went through the same issues a few years ago. The rods we were using (7 ft Daiwa graphite rods - Tierra and Saltwater) wore you out and did not have the feel we wanted. There are a few threads on this from a year or so ago.
Me and Tim ended up with a Samurai 302 matched to a Certate 2500. Awesome rod but really only good for 12 lb line and 1/2 Oz jigheads with 5 inch softies, 7 inch at a pich. At the limit with 75 cm pinkie in 20m. Good for light stickbaits but bullchops too heavy for this rod. I used this rod with 30 gram stickbaits last week to nail a heap of salmon off the beach. Very sporting though.....
Daz gave up and went east......haha.
402 would be better for 1 oz jig heads, but I wonder if you really need 1 oz....I tried the 402 and it felt a bit tip heavy for soft plastics and not as balanced as the 302, but a better stickbait rod.
Have not tried a 502, but I would think it is overkill for metro.....
I tried the Nitro, did not like it, too tip heavy for light soft plastics work but felt like it would be great for stickbaiting.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

SP/Caster
I settled with a majorcraft offshore casting 7 ft pe1-2 casts 40g no wukkas, more of a regular taper which suits boat work. For more bucks I woulda splashed out and bought a Samurai Kestrel a faster but yummier stick haha
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.
