soft plastic combo?
Submitted by papasmurf on Sat, 2008-10-04 10:55
sorry guys another rod and reel question. im really starting to get into soft plastic fishing. at the moment im using a $15 combo for flicking soft plastics down at hillarys and i think it's time to upgrade. will be targeting skippy, tarwhine, snook, herring, etc. my budget isnt huge at the moment but im willing to spend up to $150. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
cheers, Paul

G'day papa..The berkley
G'day papa..The berkley dropshot is a cheap reliable graphite stick that will handle good sized fish...Will handle good fish with light line...Have caught qute a few species on this rod with a small penn spinning reel with 2 kilo...good little buy for around 90 bucks..The market is now flooded with a masive range of rods and reels, but if you keep it simple and reliable you can't go wrong!

You dont have to spend a great deal of money to get some reliable gear these days..I own some other graphite sticks which I paid a fair bit for, but I still rip out the old dropshot!...great feel on a small budget!

thanks for the feedback. i
thanks for the feedback. i was looking at the 2-4kg berkley dropshots at Gotya Tackle this morning. they look like a great rod for a very reasonable price. how do you think a penn affinity 1000 or 2000 would pair up to it? they are also pretty cheap and look like good value for money.
cheers, Paul

the dropshop 2 to 4 will be fine with the 2000 size applause and 6lb braid but ask one of the sponsors to get it for you as you then get a discount as well. Both ryan thipthorp and mako magic are on line now so why not ask! Good luck.
