I've caught herring among hoardes of blowies at the north mole. I found the blowies would only each the plastic if you stopped it moving. If you use a constant retreive either by wiggling the rod tip while winding or lift, drop and retreive they dont touch it, but when you stop for even half a second chunks go missing pretty quick. Herring like it being retreived fast though, so I had a SP lasting a while.
I've had best success for herring on a 5g silver twisty. Perfect match to the bait i've pulled out of herrings stomachs. Versatile to use, and blowies cant destroy it. Straight retreive, partially skipping the surface, though you can wobble the rod tip just a little too (looks good but havent tried yet).
Skippy? Just find Colin Hay :P

If you're fishing the
If you're fishing the lighter stuff, <6lb, then have a look at some of the blade style lipless crankbaits from TT and Ecogear. They cast a mile, are blowie proof and catch pretty well. Had a bit of success lately on them and others have been doing pretty well.
