Solid Sunday Session
G’day Crew, I’ve been a long time reader of the forum but not much of a contributor, mostly dhu to the fact I’ve never really had a solid fish to post about. Don’t get me wrong, I do alright, I get my fish just nothing amazing. All changed last Sunday.
After a while without getting out on the boat I was having a chat with a mate last Saturday, when we decided the weather was looking good, so we should do it. I’ve been looking at some charts and had picked a bunch of spots I’d never been to before and was keen to give them a look and see what the ground actually looked like. So it was decided, I’d pick him up and leave from Rocko at 7am and get a decent day of fishing in, while checking for some new ground.
As usual with us, a bit of dcking around takes place and we get away just after the planned time, but on the way to the first mark sound over some ground and spend the next 30 minutes fishing that spot for a couple of small pinkys, not the target, time to move on. Anyway we finally get to the first mark and start sounding it out, it doesn’t really light the sounder up, but good enough to have a drop, so we turn around to start setting up on it. As we turn the sounder does light up a bit, so I chuck a waypoint in (pt 97) and head back to the first bit of ground about 50m away and have a drop. We do alright, pick up a good pinky (72cm). A few more drifts and I’m keen to move on and see what else is around, when old mate shacked81, says “lets go have a drop on 97 before we move on, I’ve got a feeling about that”, no worries. First drift we pick up a undersize dhu which gets shacked frothin so we head around for our second.
This is where it gets fun, straight away shacked calls “I’m on” which gets me excited as I haven’t even got a line in the water on this drift yet. Quickly drop it down while shacked is having a good tussle, and straight away, Bang, I’m on. Whatever I have on here is giving me grief and giving the little TLD15 a bit of a workout. Anyway as I’m battling this fish I turn around to see shacked boating a solid 80cm Dhu. Happy days. Before too long my fish is near the surface (I’d been calling it for a dhu) but as a start to see colour I get my doubts, too big. 30 seconds later its on the surface and with lots of shouting and high fiving it’s the biggest freaking dhu I’ve ever caught. A freaking horse. Job done. We called it a day and went home. No need to keep fishing after boating a horse like that. A solid 105cm job. Certainly, a PB for me.

Well done. Certainly gets
Well done. Certainly gets the blood pumping when you got a big fish on the line and to see it break the surface is awesome. Takes a bit to calm down .
