Some forward thinking in Portland Vic
as Portland abolishes boat parking fees. WA next, I think not.
Edit - my wife is from Portland and as a result I get updated on the local fishing scene especially when the SBT are about. Portland has done a remarkable job in recognising the money that fisherman bring to an area. Many fishos travel from Melbourne some 4 hours away. The ramp facilities were originally basic but these have all been upgraded and extended such that there are now numerous finger jetties and probably 6-8 launch and retrieve ramps. Many locals have embraced the opportunity to cater for the influx of fishos with accommodation, boat storage, food and of course tackle shops extending opening hours. I believe hot coffee, bacon and egg sandwiches and lunches can be purchased at the ramp when numbers are up. Good on them for recognising the money fishos bring and welcoming them to their town.

W.A. government have had no
W.A. government have had no idea for a lot of years now. Broome is a world class fishing destination but our facilities are 3rd world. 2 more cars written off yesterday due to shit launching facilities catching out people making a slight mistake. The reason I sold my larger boat and now fish in a smaller one.

The reason I’m not fishing
The reason I’m not fishing billfish comps up there is the launching is just too hard. Been and done that and it’s just not enjoyable.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

What are the shire thinkin.
Broome is always promoting itself as a major tourist centre and you would think that they would be well aware of the need to have a good ramp for fishos

Too much bullshit between the
Megs, Too much bullshit between the wankers that don't want change in town unless they get a handout and the people that can see what it could achieve for the town. And this town is struggling because of it.

Perhaps another council the minister for local government
Maybe the minister needs to have a close look at the way the council is operating the same as he did at Perth council and one or to others. Some of these people get elected and soon forget that they are elected to work for the community that elected them.

The boat ramps here are a state gov issue as the port have jurisdiction over the water. Got a group here flogging a dead horse with ideas that where knocked back years ago and none of them own a boat. All we want is safer launching facilities on all tide.
As for Portland we travelled through there a few years ago and I can vouch for the good bacon and eggs near the ramp.

Lived in Broome
I lived in Broome for 4 years and all the council and many Business people in town wanted was the tourist dollar,
However they didn't want the tourist, hence the reason why there are no decent ramps.
That was back in the early 90's and sounds like it is still the same today.

That’s it was a state gov responsibility
Dont they realize that word of mouth is the best advertising you can get,I didn’t realize that it was a state gov responsibility And the McGowan government is pushing state tourism hard, you just can’t figure some people out.
