Someone in Perth to install a thru-hull transducer

Hi, I have a Haines Signature 600F and am having a lot of problems getting a good reading with my current Furuno 620 and transducer set up. I have tried moving the transom mounted transducer and now have a 600 W inhull transducer sitting in the bilge area which is an improvement but not great.

After doing a lot of research I would like to upgrade to a 1000 Watt unit and think my best option for this boat is to get a thru hull transducer. This involves drilling quite a big hole so I would like to find someone in Perth who has done a few of these and knows what they are doing. Any suggestions welcome, ideally someone in the Northern suburbs but not essential.

Regards Russell

Dont know if I would drill through the hull ,I had a through the hull on my old hummingbird and it worked ok.They do fire through the hull ok (at least I had No problem ) Trick is to get it in the right posion first,do this by having access to your hull at the back of the boat then using Plastersean (yes the kids stuff ) experiment with where you get the best reading (not Inline with a chine ) Plasterseen will hold it in place and fire through it.When found small puddel of flow coat on a smooth area will hold it in place .Or see ALLBOATS and they will proberly be able to drill one in for you .

This is how its done with tranducers i am using

I got quotes done and its round about the $1500 figure.

Gary at boat paints fremantle can put you onto a good glassy. But be careful. You want an experienced guys only for this.

I did it myself having have had some experience in the fibreglass industry.

Not sure if you can run a i 1kw on the 620 furuno??

Space is the challenge in a 6m vessel and if you go the way i did with the 585 -MB1100 - 1kw 50b transducer it will be tight. You will also have to fit the 200b also for the system the operate correctly.

If you are fishing in shallow water ie 0- 80 meters i would not recomend going this way.

Im fishing deep all the time so i was demanding good piucture (on a budget)

You could consider a 295 unit with 2-3kw wet box/ shoot thru.

Or there are thru hull stainless steel or brass style but from research they lack performance in deep water. Fine in shallower water. Fark there pricey!!

An easier way to go is a transom mount 1kw airmar transducer. Not the greatest cruising picture for sounding fish but effective at slow speeds to 500 meters (just)

This is all in my opinion as ive played with various setups of late.

If your serious about fishing deep water get ready to cough up big dollars. But its worth it.
