Somewhere off Two Rocks on 3 Nov 2010

Did a couple of dives with PeteD, Paul, Jessie and Kevin today off Two Rocks. Seabreeze of course got it wrong and even though we launched at 7.30am, we ended soaking up the sun at anchor in the shallows till about 11.00am.

At 11am we got sick of waiting and decided to take a snorkel at Roe's reef to cool off. Then at about 11.30am the wind finally started to slow down and we headed out wide to look for a lump, but after 30min of mapping the bottom, we decided to push off and dive another lump that Paul discovered but hadn't dived yet. The lump went from 40-34M and held some nice looking crays. I am glad I decided to take my camera along and even happier that it went down to 40 without leaking. Anyway, here are a few shots. Take it easy on me, this is only the second time I have had the camera in the water.

This fella was on his own in his own hole, was one of the big boys.

On the ledge directly below him was this lot - all were clearly size.

Then there was the horror movie stuff!

Anyway at 30+M time ticks by quite quickly and we were soon all hanging on the anchor line doing our deco then up top side, we had some lunch to help pass the required surface interval before the ned dive.

The next spot was shallower at 18-24 and I only saw one cray here, but there were some decent fish about.

Even though we ended up with a late start due to the wind, it was great to be out there getting wet. Big thanks to Pete for letting me buddy up and to Paul for taking us to this lump.

Can't wait till 15 Nov.

Some good shots, would have been a great dive.

Some big jumbos amongst the crays, another week or so and they would have been in the bag.

Thanks guys.

Carnarnvonite, I was tempted to grab one!  They somehow know the season hasn't started yet and walked right up to the camera.

Soupster don't complain, you're having it good over there!

Tony, pity you missed out, was a good dive, but the trade off this time was probably worth it! ;)

Poddy, this dhu was small, there was a bruiser, but no pic, so I didn't mention it earlier.  Camera had auto shutoff and by the time it was ready again, the big one was spooked.

Some great shots there Alfred.  The blue fish is a Western Blue Devil and yep it is a fox fish (there was alot on that dive) - saw the flash go off over my shoulder when I was filming that one too.

Thanks for letting us tag along Paul and sit in that nice bay all morning (bloody wind).  Great company....just get Jesse to leave all the flies behind next time...hehehe

Looking forward to the cray season.

Cheers Pete

It does appear that some of those crays certainly knew "closed season" and was just plain teasing you all. Wouldnt even need a snare for those few. That Jumbo has a feed in its legs alone.

I miss the days of southern rock lobster. The vegie painteds up here just dont have the same appeal as the reddies.

The crays are clam at the moment as no one has been chasing them for a while.  All that will change when the first few are caught and the panic sets in.

No not a squid, but some wrasse.  Did see a few cuttlefish but the pics didn't come out well.

Cam was a G10.
