I have what i think is the best of the best 585 furuno 1 kw trans and a hds 8 plotter. Trying out deepdrop but having trouble picking
up bottom ( at speed ) 400-500+.
any advice for that depth. would be appreciated.

You need more power
yeah sure a 585 with 1kw will give you a reasonable showing but only at slow speeds (5knots max)
For better imaging you'll need to step up to a 295 or 1150 with 2 or 3kw transducers. Even then you'll still have to stick to slow speeds.

As Matt says you will need
As Matt says you will need to go slow regardless of what unit your running, I need to be sub 5kn with my 295 to pick up good detail.

Mate, I have the 587 and 1kW
Mate, I have the 587 and 1kW SS264 thu hull. If conditons are calm, I can go up to about 7 knots in 350m and it is OK, if surface is choppy, you really need to slow down to 5 knots as other have suggested. In deeper than 400m, you will need to go slower again with only 1 kw of power.
Guys who have 295's and 2-3 kW report having to go about 5 knots in deeper than 400m in trailer boats to get clear reading.......

so it appears it has nothing
so it appears it has nothing to do with power its just the distance its gotta bounce down to and back ?. and if you travel to fast you miss the return echo

Going too fast is part
of it, it's the rocking from side to side in small boats as well.
