Soupster does well in Micronesia

I went out with my work mate up here in Pohnpei as a part of the monthly fishing tournament. I wore my 'fishwrecked' shirt and did it proud. The conditions at times were very ordinary to say the least with current coming from three different directions and up to 30knots of wind. The tournament was a 'Catch 5' tournament with Marlin, Yellow-fin tuna, skip-jack tuna, Mahi Mahi and Wahoo being the target species. In between holding on for dear life we attempted to work our way through the species. It was my plan that once I caught the target I would change lure types and attempt to work through the list. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way and you catch something you already have, but everything is kept here. Nothing goes to waste. We even give the frames away to the local people that live near our house; they are more than happy to eat the guts and boil up the frames. Anyway we ended up with Wahoo, yellow-fin and Mahi Mahi. When we came back in for the weigh in I thought we might be in with a chance due to the weather being so bad. As it turns out only two other boats (out of twelve in the comp) had caught three of the target species, and we were the only ones to catch yellow-fin. It then came down to weight of the heaviest fish from each species for a combined weight of the three. We won the tournament by 1 and a half pounds. You bloody beauty. I celebrated back at home with another beer and some yellowfin sashimi straight off the fish.

Popping

Tue, 2010-03-30 17:09

Had a couple of goes but it is just too rough at the moment. Come May the seasons change, the trolling dies right down and the popping and jigging will start on the calmer water. I've been asking heaps of questions and I am starting to get some quality info. Don't worry as soon as it starts the pictures won't be far behind. Some of the local guys are trolling poppers over the top of the reef for GTs now but I'm not that game just yet. Once I have the local areas sussed a little more (and the weather calms down enough to see the reef) I'll be into that as well.

Witchdoctor

First day with the Witchdoctor out the back, has to say something. I'm thinking that I have to add about another 20m of rope though to get it closer to the back of the wake.

great effort . just going fishing in those conditions is hard enough and to get a great catch like that would have been awesome. well done but you can keep that raw fish Laughing
