south west cray help

 Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone is getting crays in pots down this way?(Busselton)

I have had mine in since last Wednesday and have had no luck yet, I am a rookie though.

I have the pots on some small bommies off Forrest but thinking of moving to another spot we have if other guys are getting crays at other spots in pots.

Any help would be great.

Cheers Choc.

Crays

Crays rarely go in to pots south of Bunbury for some reason, whether its a lack of swell, who knows. That's why you don't see any pro pots in the area.

iv had pots in south of

iv had pots in south of bunbury most years going back since the early 80s,
edit , choc forgot to be more specific in location , pots have been in the minninup beach area mostly since the 80s
only two places I pot is there and down south of the capes

we have potted lots of crays there at the huts , they are the same species etc, they just need the same sort of conditions to pot well ,
best result we had was 54 crays in 4 pots in a good year there

pro boats back in the day [70-80s] fished it often enough , freedom and seatips 2 come to mind , as well as others in good years, but not on the whites
thing is there is lots of better ground to fish elswhere around bunners for those guys , most are gone now anyway

the further south you go from bunbury to peppy the more swell you need to get em to pot, with low swell, clear shallow water the divers will do much better in that area,
potting for the whites is hard work for little return in that area especially since rich road was opened up along wth the subdivisions in the 90s

use heavy duty slat pots , bait up with good quality oily bait, go every day , as early as posible daybreak is best , set on sandy edges of the reef , move around as the nests their can vary from year to year where their abundant , or thin on the ground

West side

No shortage of crays from Cape Naturaliste south. They start again on the west side of Geographe bay round Rocky Point/ Eagle bay then all the way down the west side heading south.
It is only the east side from Bunbury round past Busso that they don't often go in to pots.

Ive had pots in just off Stratham and not had 1 cray go in a pot for the last 4 weeks, yet a mate that dives there and was diving not far from my pots said there are heaps around.I cant work it out, maybe you are right Carnarvonite but there is always heaps of rec pots along that part of the coast. Reckon it might be cheaper to buy them from Coles. LOL

Thanks for the info guys, will try moving the pots around.

A mate told us where he saw a few while diving a couple of weeks back.

How far do most of you guys put your pots off the reef when the whites start walking.
