So, Im going to the southwest in just over two weeks, and that means winetime. So what are your favorites? I am probably more of a red drinker and generally like cab merlot, shiraz, viognier and grenache styles.
The trip is to Walpole via Albany hwy to Mt Barker, to Denmark, to Walpole. That being said, first stop will probably be http://moombaki.com/ As it is on the road from Denmark to Walpole and we will stop there on the way to Walpole to get some for the tent site.
I have been to the Meadery which is interesting too.

Reds
Love my reds but the better ones tend to come from south australia, white heaven down south west.
Brookland Valley Shiraz 2002, one of the best drops out that I got my hands on. Before they bowed to Yank pressure and removed the 'piper boy's' tackle off their logo

Rickety Gate has good whites
Rickety Gate has good whites and reds and is a must stop when we head south. Near Denmark.

It's worth following the back road and trying a few others on the way to Denmark from Walpole.

Gilberts & Castle Rock
Try Gilberts north of Mt Barker, and Castle Rock on Chester pass Rd for a memorable Pinot Noir

As said,
Brookland Est make some nice Red. Some of the best white in the world is Willespie and of course the Leeuwin Est chradonnay. Fermoy Est make a really good cabernet that's also priced pretty well as that whole region is quite over priced in my opinion.

Old Kent River wines

check this out - the only Australian wines selected to be served in Qantas's first class cabin.
There's a new cidery (Elephant Rock Cider) at the Toffee Factory on the left past Parryville Hall.
And you're going to the Great Southern, not the South West.
