Southwind UB580 100 Yammy
Submitted by Joodles on Wed, 2011-05-04 21:32
Hey guys, there is a UB580 for sale at the moment that has had a bit of glass work done to the transom and has a Yamaha 100hp 4 stroke hanging off it. Just wondering if anyone is familiar with this boat or maybe you were the previous owner who traded it in? I'm just chasing an un-bias opinion on the vessel.
Thanks

Probably not insurable, most
Probably not insurable, most were only rated to 75hp at the transom.
I tend to keep my eye on them, so which dealer has it? Drop me a PM if you don;t want to let the cat out of the bag online.

Yeah, 100hp is a crap load
Yeah, 100hp is a crap load for one of those boats. See them with 60 and 75hp a lot.

100hp does seem a crap load
100hp does seem a crap load of overkill. The previous owner seems to have been a pretty serious fisho though! Yes I am in the market for a Southwind, prefer the UB520 over the 580 though. What size is your mates MOB? The one I mention till is up at Distinctive Boat imports.

That one looks pretty
That one looks pretty tidy.
I saw an older one with a 2st on it go for $10k last week.
I personally would take the 580 over the 520 any time. The hull on the 520 is quite different underneath, in fact probably closest to the rather uncommon ST580. Its more of a tunnel hull design and more waterline length = less bumps!

Hey till, do you know about
Hey till, do you know about the change in moulds over the years they produced them? I've noticed there is a difference in some internal mouldings in the boats that I've looked at so far. Some also seem to have much more freeboard and a less distinctive banana bend. Also yeah I agree with the 580, a remeasure confirmed it will fit in it's future parking space!

Rod sold a lot when he sold
Rod sold a lot when he sold new boats.
So far as I know, there are only really the following;
UB580/UB19 (with filled-in or hollowed out transom)
UB670/UB22 (with filled-in or hollowed out transom)
UB770
ST580 (more freeboard, tunnel hull, full length flat keel)
UB520 (more of a tunnel hull, but the front of a UB580)
I've seen a couple different consoles on them, but thats about it really. I measured my drive, I can get a UB670 in there, as long as the trailer has a fold-away tounge and I hang the arse over the porch ;)

How is the moped going to go with the towing
then you will also need to find yourself some deckies and handle the pressure of trying to put them onto fish
