S/P Rod

I'm in the market for a PE3 soft plastics rod, I have a fair budget, also will be using a 4500Z on it to begin with, later moving to a Saltiga Game 3500, what are peoples recommendations??

if you have a good reel like that, might aswell get a nice matching rod for it.

Daiwa Saltwater 20lb is a nice plastics rod too, pretty easy on the budget as well.

For sure, but unlike the GT gear, you can get good gear at quite ok coin. I think Ryan from Oceanside says he runs his with a Stella 4k with PE3 for sails.

I'm using a Majorcraft Offblow and its been fine, but if you really want to blow coin get a Majorcraft Alexander? I think Daz and Chrisp both have them, they look nice =)

Dont think the Alexanders are actually priced too highly Jamie, from memory around $300-400?
Chris or Daz will know better though haha

I don't think they're too expensive either, pretty reasonable for what you get.

would recommend one of the xzoga takadum series, but 4500z might throw out some of the pe3 rods when it comes to balance.

God rod

Tue, 2010-09-21 22:41

I like the God rod....Sylphy....PE 3 max 6'5" available in 10-60gm or 20-80gm model.
The Z4500 is way too big. Best to use the 3500 Game or better yet, get a Stella 4000...hehe

I run the lighter model with a Certate 4000 and PE 2.

The Majorcraft Offblow is not bad as well. Handle a fair bit of abuse. The Alexander is abit short and its more a jigging rod.

3500 Saltiga Game

Wed, 2010-09-22 07:22

Don't think they are making the Saltiga 3500 game anymore. Could be wrong but it isn't in the Daiwa 2011 catalogue. I have been jigging with one of late and love it. Shimano have a couple of new model t-curves for SP that don't look too bad.

Shimano T Curve Saltwater

Wed, 2010-09-22 14:35

Shimano T Curve Saltwater Spin 5-10kg. I've got mine with a Twinpower 5000SW and 20lb braid and it goes off. I'll be chasing everything from trout to sails with it in a few months.

I use a Daiwa Saltwater but can't wait to get rid of it. Dislike the butt on it so much it drives me nuts!

Shimano Saltwater spin is a better rod IMO.

Look into the G loomis range too. I'm looking to upgrade my heavy plastics rod soon & it'll most likely be a loomis.

Oh, and ditch the 4500 saltiga Steve... too heavy!

4000, 5000 or 6000 stella/twinny will be nicer.

Thanks for the replies

Wed, 2010-09-22 15:54

Thanks for the replies everybody, it seems as though the soft plastics thing has really taken off and realistically the only fish I've ever caught on S/P's are skippy and herring.
I will definately be buying a new reel it's just a matter of how the taxman treats me this year. Is there any preferences in terms of gear ratios?

another honorable mention should go the the Nitro Viper, very good sticks and have bowled over some great fish.
