Speaker Cutouts

I am going to install an extra 2 speakers at the rear of the boat and they need a 130mm cutout. I'm not too keen on paying $50-60 for a hole saw bit I'll use once so will I get away with taping the area with painter's masking tape and using a fine jigsaw bit to cut out a circleish hole?

It's around 8-10mm of fibreglass/gelcoat I'll be cutting through and I don't have any other cutting tools besides an oscillating multi tool.

Cheers

I’d put out my feelers to borrow a hole saw from someone Jack, save a bit of stuffing about and will be neater and quicker.

Make sure you tape up anywhere the jigsaw is going to touch if you are doing it on the gelcoat side to make sure you dont mark it. Better to cut from the back side if possible.

Hahaha. I went back to my roots after the Green Mitsos dried up and you'll only hear metal pumping from my boat these days

Cheers Jutty you're a champ and made my life a hell of a lot easier.

Lesson for the future though. If you're going to buy 2nd hand speakers from Gumtree make sure they work before drilling 2x 127mm holes in your boat.

Yeah mate was pretty furious last night but slept on it and shot him a text this morning to let him know so we'll see what he says. Am just gonna buy the same ones new to install in the two fuck off holes I have in my boat which I was going to do anyway until these ones popped up on Gumtree.
