Spungy floor
Submitted by synthos on Sat, 2015-01-17 15:01
ALo ALo so last year I recarpeted her she looks mint so now I have noticed on one side the flor has a bit of give to it... about a 1m x 80cm area not to bad in the rear corner, yes I am a big guy but even lighter people feel it so I try not to step on that area, it sucks as she has new carpet could the floor boards in that area require replacing ? its a fiber hull about 2006 it only on one side everywhere else seems solid so currently we just all try to avoid it.
Anyone have any input ?
Thanks

Carpet
Pull the carpet up and have a good look at the floor, to me it sounds like you have got rot inside the floor and may need replacing. Its not good hoping it will go away because the longer you leave it the worse its going to get

As above, a common problem
As above, a common problem for older glass boats such as pacemakers and swift crafts where the wood supporting the floor and the hull gets water ingress and starts to rot resulting in "squishy ribs".

The best bet would be to
put a drill in that section an see what the swill looks like before you go to far. If it looks wet you may have a problem with water getting in somewhere. If it is dry it may have come adrift on a seam or rib. The wet bit will need a cut out and replace. A dry bit will need a grind out off the edges and re glue/reglass. When you have finished, plug the drill hole with some 24 hr araldite or similar..Either way an 2006 boat, you wouldn't think that this type of thing would happen yet. In another 5 to 10 years maybee. What brand hull? Someone on here might have the same hull with the same prob and what they did to fix??

Agree shouldn't be happening
Agree shouldn't be happening (yet) on a 2006 boat. Will need to check if it's only the floor or worse - problems with the stringer/s
Have you (or anyone else) mounted anything in that area or nearby where screw holes may have allowed water in (even if the screws were sealed up at the time)??

sadly
Its a cruisecraft and its only one corner everything else seems fine the transom mount hangs in that corner but that's it and if it was filling up I would notice as it has a bung plug why I dunno ;) as its alos over the part where I have air pockets for buoyancy/flotation (the days before foam filling)

Wouldn't necessarily have
Wouldn't necessarily have water coming out the bungs - may only be enough to seep into the floor.
""Transom mount hangs in that corner"" I assume your referring to the transducer - would this be at floor level?? Water entering through the screw holes???
Other thing could be maybe it wasn't flush on top the stringers in that corner when built and only now becoming noticeable. Few possibilities.
What model Cruisecraft??
When you find the reason I'd certainly be interested to hear.
