For the Squid Lovers

Being super keen on my egiing, I thought I'd share some recent squid pics.

And just a reminder that Dr Peter Coulson from Murdoch Uni is still after squid donations for the research he is doing on our southern calamari.

See the attached Flyer to find out more.

Cheers

some nice pics and some very cool looking squid mate nice work and good to see someone out there actually has an interest in getting some research done on these awesome creatures. have you found that the snap you use to connect your jig slows the bite in clear water?

Haven't noticed a difference with using the egi clip.  Ripping the jig through the water usually fires them up, so they're prob not worried about the clip.

The clearer the water the better for catch rates though.

good to see your enthusiasm for catching squid!

Icanot tell clearly for the pics but do yuo use a flurocarbon leader or is it braid directly to egi clip?

Cheers, yeah enjoy my squidding.

Always use a flurocarbon leader.  10-12lb leader with usually a similar rated braid.  Was using 6lb once, but loosing too many jigs in the weed.

Sorry Wazza for mowing your grass

As I thought the less visible the leader the better IMO (and yours)

I can tell that it is a leader, whether flourocarbon (I suspect this) or Mono. In the shot with him holding up the squid you can see its a leader material across his leg.

If you use braid to egiclip etc the squid will see it and be spooked for sure. Remember they have excellent vision.

I think the pics detail the rod & reel

But as far as line goes.  I was using 12lb Fireline Exceed and Berkley Nanofil, but have changed to a PE 0.8 OH Dragon depth indicating braid on one set-up and a PE 0.9 Varivas on the the other.

Similar weight fluro leader aswell. All 3000 size shimano reels on a Shimano Sephia 3-6kg 7'6" ML rod for shore based.  Any light flicky for the boat.
