I worked on a commercial shark boat in metro waters back in the early 90's and the groper were a fairly common catch in the net (only the smallish green/ female ones tho). pretty rare to get one on the hook tho...
Has to be fresh bait , they are very funny on hooks. Only about 14 total in 40 years fishing( between my boys and me). And yet they take crays of your snare .
Those squid look great! Never really had a go beyond chucking a jig in with the kids once or twice over the years and catching a couple. Grateful for any guidance or video links on the apporach when drifting from a small boat, as I'm uncertain about technique as far as depth, cast and retrieve the jig or let sit while drifting etc etc.
