squidding

ive never really done much squidding and wudnt mind giving it a go

but whats the best way to retrieve a squid jig?? like a slow retrieve and a twitch or what?

and how do those squid poles compare to the jigs in effectiveness?

and does anyone have any idea what the squidding is like at the new boardwalk at hilarys? wudnt mind giving it a go, or if anyone knows of some other spots for squid in hilarys any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Reuben

Squid!

The best way Reuben is to let it sink, then slowly use your rod to lift the jig twice in a small twitch/lift way then wind up the slack....then let it sink back down again. They often take the squid on the drop and when your about to do your next twitch/lift your often 'on" The key is to get your squid jig down in the water near the weed but if you always getting weed then go lighter/smaller etc

The baited spikes work well but i prefer the squid lures for "moving" effectiveness & covering ground. I normally use the baited jigs for a "sit & wait" setup ie L/B.....you can do both but have the baited jig under a float!

All the best!

i used to use slow retreive

i used to use slow retreive when squidding with reasonable success until i stumbled accross this on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKwDW-Teoa0
the style looks eratic and awkwid but once you have picked it up it turns more squid even when they are shy i guess due to the fact they have to react a whole lot faster. i also think that there is no substitute for a good jig you are better of buying 1 top jig than ten lower end jigs
