SSI vs PADI

Hi

Im planning to do the open water and advanced diver course soon, was planning on doing the course through the perth diving academy down at hillarys but noticed they are through SSI not PADI.

Im curious of peoples thoughts of SSI and also and more importantly if say i was to go somewhere where the only dive shop in the area was PADI would they recognise my SSI ticket fully to fill bottles and allow me to take part on dive charters etc?

Any info and opinions will be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

Kane

All the dive charters will accept any of the international dive tickets, PADI, NAUI, BSAC, SSI ..........

SSi is international as the name suggest.

Pretty penny at PDA though, but their equipment is top rate and they do the boat dives off Rotto.

Thanks mate

Im booked in for early feb when i get home from work next, It is pricey compared to some others but I liked the option to do a 6 day course and get my open water and my advanced ticket in the one hit, and the rotto dives as you say will let me know some good places to dive from my boat over there too!

Have a good one

My friend who is an instructor at Australasian Dive Academy, said that the SSI course is a little bit more comprehensive than the PADI. Up until Jan 09 PDA has always run PADI as well as Australasian Dive Academy, apparently my mate reckons it is more of a financial choice as to why the two companies have decided to switch to SSI in the new year rather than the trainning being better/worse.

But yeah the equipment PDA use is top quality and the trips out to Rotto on Lionfish IV are great, plus they put on a mega feed for you at lunch when out there.

Jesse is doing the SSI course at hookah dive, great course. I watched the PADI boys at the pool the other day Jesse was in and getting out finishing all tasks, the PADI group were just getting in the water they were stood on the edge of the pool for 30minutes,in 38 degrees in full scuba gear it’s a wonder they didn't pass out .I did the PADI course and in my opinion the SSI is a much better course as I to have learnt a heap of stuff PADI didn't teach me ,and Stic the dive master is tops ,great with the kids firm and to the point ,10 out of 10.
