Staff member Billy

A couple of staff members headed up north yesterday to play tug of war with some land based Samson fish.

Check out Billy's fish caught on a herring using a heavy handline in the early hours of the morning!

Well done. That's one beast on a hand line . Even with gloves on it would have caused a bit of pain .

Handlines

Fri, 2020-10-16 15:55

Had a spot off Yallingup that held heaps of big sambos, every time I took mates out to pull the gear we would stop there, All right blokes, this is a handline only spot and hand out 200lb handlines and then sit back and watch the fun as fingers got burnt, spools spinning across the deck, blokes swearing at me , total laugh on my part but not so funny on theirs.

Yet, there is nothing better than feeling the power of the fish through a hand line compared to rod and reel.

Good old handline....I remember working at Varanus island Mid 2008. fishing the rocks and jetties with fresh squid, running sinker with single 8/0 hooks...if you lipped hooked a decent shark it was hang on or go for a swim....Until the hook straightened.
