Stamp Duty on used Boats
Submitted by DazSamFishing on Thu, 2010-07-01 18:32
Getting close to purchasing a second hand boat, however, I may need to budget for Stamp Duty.
Does anyone know whether duty applies to used marine craft & if so, what rate applies.
Thanks,
Daz

No stamp duty on the boat
No stamp duty on the boat just a transfer fee. Have a look on the DPI website all the fee's are listed.
But you do have to pay stamp duty on the trailer.

On the boat, no stamp duty,
On the boat, no stamp duty, but there will be on the trailer, REGARDLESS of where it's from, but reciept showing how little your paid for the trailer will keep it to a minimum.

Yep there is a small transfer fee on the boat..... around $40 to $60. But you will pay SD on the trailer, so keep the price down on that.
Just picked up a second hand boat today myself. About to go through the transfer proccess myself

SD
None on the boat mate but yes on the trailer. Remember that the value you declare for the trailer if it's too low (To keep the SD down) may become an issue with insurance if it's a good one. Or just get a good broker..
