Stark raving mad

I'am not sure if this bit of video has been posted up before, however as it is now the season for salmon and a lot of people will be chasing them from rocks, I think it is appropriate to post this up as a good reminder of what you should not do (repeat) no fish is worth this type of risk taking.
In fact I think these guys have lost the plot big time, seriously.
I hope and wish all those who chase salmon from the rocks great success and a safe time.

Certianly wouldn't call it
Certianly wouldn't call it the fishing version of jackass. These guys aren't kicking themselves in the balls or pulling teeth out with lambos for a laugh they're finding epic landbased fishing locations. You can't deny the serious risk involved with this sort of fishing but they seem to have a fair idea of what they're doing. Certianly not something to try if you dont have the knowledge! No different between choosing to skydive or use a wingsuit if you ask me.
There are always going to be people pushing the boundaries of any sport... these guys just chose fishing.

It's a funny thing: When one
It's a funny thing: When one is younger, you seldom consider your mortality. When I think back on the things I did in my twenties, I can only thank God that I'm still alive today. Makes me want to sit down and have a stiff drink.
Maybe, in twenty or thirty years, they'll watch the clip and think "WTF was I doing?!" In the meantime, these blokes are having the time of their lives (and I bet that most who watch the clip, envy them for some truly great land based fishing).
I'll climb off my soap box now, and go have that stiff drink..... much safer!

Yeah
been posted before and started a heated debate about how crazy/mental or whatever they are.
Sure it's risky but they're a bunch of young blokes who are also experienced surfers and have a solid understanding of what they are doing in and out of the water.
If you follow them on Facebook or Instagram you might gain a better understanding of what they're about.

Each to their own but don’t
Each to their own but don’t promote it , given rockfishing is one of our most deadly sports , I’d hate to think that even one impressionable young fisho lost his life because they ignored safety first because they’re too cool for school and wanted to do some extreme rockfishing like these idiots .. Going by their facebook page they have quite a following and doing well marketing their apparel with the tag “ For Real Fisherman “.. just sends the wrong message in my book ..

while I agree in principal
while I agree in principal Chris, the same can be said about freestyle mx, skateboarding tricks, radical spearfishing and many other sports that us "oldies" have come to regard as "extreme".
Risktaking is just a part of adolescence and really an essential part of growing up.

The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

I suppose
I suppose it depends on your age, when I was younger I would have thought this was great.
Now all I see is pain and anguish for the families left behind. Just saying, not trying to put these guys down, good luck to them.

These dudes jump off rocks
These dudes jump off rocks like this all the time when surfing. They are used to the occasional scrape / bruise. This looks safer than some of those crazy surfers riding 30 foot waves which crash onto shallow reefs

It is surprising what you will risk when your young.
Having superannuation, and an older body, makes you stop that madness. I won't do a few things now days that I wouldn't never have battered an eye lid to do fifteen years ago.
Thats life, good memories. That's what young is for.

Whilst clearly dangerous they
Whilst clearly dangerous they do promote core fishing values such as respect for the ocean and sustainable (catch and release) fishing.
They also put their gear through their paces! At least these blokes are pushing top end reels to the limit, justification to the people who pay top dollar for their gear!
Blokes who risk their lives for an adrenaline rush, no different to hunters, extreme sports, stunt pilots, rock climbers, etc etc

That's Keen!
From the speach givin they have been at for a long time so know there limit to some extent! The wet suits and surfing as the boys mention tells you there fair swimmers! besides the last set....a knock to the head and they could have been in trouble...but same with surfing.
Theres a big difference between these guys and some average jo down south on the big brown slippery rocks hes never fished before who cant swim, thats stupid!

Good on em looks like great
Good on em looks like great fun ,we used to do similar chasing salmon at Bunkers Bay,as Matt said you have to have some surf sense etc . Most of the crew that get washed in dont have the confidence and wouldnt know how to get themselves out of trouble, by doing what they do they are building there abilities thus making it safer. Key to rock fishing first point ,LEARN HOW TO SWIM .

Those blokes obviously know
Those blokes obviously know what they're doing, are familiar with the conditions and are prepared for a dunk. It's the novices/fools who don't know what they're doing that are really taking risks.

if i was younger i would be tempted, but i dont like getting bashed and scaped on rocks so much any more.....
i do admire their passion
