Stradic

I believe the CI4+ is a bit lighter and the spool has greater line capacity.  I bought a CI4+ 4000, for the previous reasons, and am very happy with it.

Cheers.

There is Ci4 4000 (came

There is Ci4 4000 (came out 4-5 years ago) and also a newer Ci4+ 4000.

Weight savings for Ci4 & Ci4+ compared to the FJs.

Also more features on Ci4+ compared to the FJs. In saying that, I have seen my mates FJ went through some serious flogging and still came back unscathed.

If you ask me I'll pick the Ci4+ simply because it has more features and light weight.`

As above. Weight and slightly more line etc. Had the smaller 2500 Stradic and also a CI4 and for what I was doing noticed very little difference, and the CI4 only had a "greater bling factor". Lost the CI4 overboard to a big fish taking a small bait up out of dampier (snapped the light rod clear out of the holder and off she went). Switched back to the Stradic FJ and have to admit didnt realy notice it. For the money if I had to replace it would go FJ, or better still get the Sustain. Beautiful little reel IMO, and I use my 2500 and 4000 more than the equivalent Stella's I have - go figure!!!

The stradic fj have a metal body with Ci4 side plate

Were as the Ci4 body and side plate are all graphite/plastic ci4 orwhat ever you want to call it . Personally I hate the amount of flex and movement in the body of the Ci4 models I prefer the nice rigid body of the fj,s

 Ci4 is shimano's equivalent

Ci4 is shimano's equivalent to Daiwa's Zaion, Carbon infused plastic, Ci4 & Ci4+ vs metal body in the FJ. The Ci4+ has better internals than the Ci4 (should say uprated internals), but can only get the Ci4 models in the smaller sizes 4000 down, the FJ 1000 upwards to the 8000. The new Sustains are Ci4 bodies too, all the way up to the 10000. Ci4's I prefer for my breaming range and FJ's for more offshore work and Tailor/Salmon spinning.

I have both

I have Rareniums (comes with 2 spools ) and the Fj.

The reason i got an FJ was it had a little more weight. I always check the reel on the rod before i commit to buy. When i put the lighter reel on, the outfit seemed very unbalanced. I tried the FJ and even tho the weight difference is not very mutch it balanced the rod out perfectly.

I always recomend to friends a type of reel for what they want, but then make them take the rod with them and try it with the reel on. You might find it dosnt feel very good, or you might want the next size up or down.
